This homemade trail mix is a great snack option that provides a mix of healthy fats, protein, and fibre. The nuts and coconut flakes are a good source of healthy fats, while the dried fruits add natural sweetness and fiber. Dark chocolate chips provide antioxidants and add a delicious touch of sweetness. The sea salt provides a little bit of sodium, which is important for proper hydration and electrolyte balance.
- 1 cup raw cashews
- 1 cup raw walnuts
- 1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1 cup dried cherries
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (use dairy-free chocolate chips for a vegan option)
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
METHOD Preheat the oven to 175°C. Spread the almonds, cashews, and walnuts in an even layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly toasted. In a large bowl, mix together the toasted nuts, coconut flakes, dried cranberries, dried cherries, and chocolate chips. Sprinkle the sea salt over the mixture and toss to combine. Allow the trail mix to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
