Buckwheat is a gluten-free whole grain that is rich in fibre, protein, and various nutrients such as magnesium, copper, and manganese. Chapati is a healthier alternative to traditional wheat flour tortillas or bread, as it is made with nutrient-rich buckwheat flour and doesn’t contain any dairy, seed oils or processed sugar.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil (coconut oil or avocado oil work well)

METHOD

In a mixing bowl, combine the buckwheat flour and salt. Slowly add water and mix to form a dough.

Knead the dough for a few minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Add more water if necessary.

Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.

Dust a rolling surface with some buckwheat flour and roll out each ball into a thin circle.

Heat a non-stick (ideally ceramic) frying pan over medium-high heat.

Brush a small amount of oil.

Place the chapati on the pan and cook for about 30 seconds on each side or until golden brown.

Repeat with the remaining chapatis.
